It deals with the central region of Bulgaria—from Sofia to the Black Sea—where the evn has its business responsibilities.
Ponger and Sharp engage in transdisciplinary work at the interfaces of art and film, art and science, art and politics, ethnology, sociology, art and history, society, migration and democracy. They move elegantly across the terrain where progressive contemporary discourse begins and, with their Logbook, they dock onto a Europe which is increasingly coming to regard itself as less an economic union and much more a cultural community and observe the seismic waves that run through the hierarchies of the European area. The Logbook is incisive travel literature, pointed political analysis, as gripping as a novel and always amusing and stimulating. The brilliant essay is accompanies by ambient sounds from Bulgaria, by music, language and noises. Everyday the travellers learn more about the country and everyday their affinity to its inhabitants grows. “So, like all good tourists,” we read in the foreword, “in respect of the places we visited and events we participated in we were trying to put the past in the context of the present. In contrast to normal tourists we were also looking for metaphors and markers, for the irregularities of history, where the official past gets in the way of the official present, where hidden histories are in the process of being revealed and previously accepted accounts are up for re-negotiation. Thus we were (and are) concerned with laying down a network of interconnected experiences, views, impressions and information…”

Im Gegensatz zu normalen TouristInnen aber suchten wir auch nach Metaphern und Zeichen für die Unregelmäßigkeiten von Geschichte, in der sich die offizielle
Vergangenheit der offiziellen Gegenwart in den Weg stellt, verborgene Geschichten ans Tageslicht treten und bisher akzeptierte Narrative neu verhandelt werden. So waren wir damit beschäftigt, ein Netzwerk von in sich verbundenen Erfahrungen, Sichtweisen, Eindrücken und Informationen darzulegen…’
